Storm v Cowboys match a sell-out

Sunshine Coast footy fans have been lightning fast in securing tickets to Melbourne Storm’s second-last “home” game at Sunshine Coast Stadium this week.

It comes as this Sunday’s Storm v Cowboys match sold out within 24 hours of tickets going on sale to the general public.

Footy fans will have one last chance to witness Storm’s final “home” game of the season, when they take on Wests Tigers on Saturday 19 September at 5.30pm.

Sunshine Coast Economic Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said the sell-out game proved just how much the region loved its NRL and “our” Melbourne Storm.

“Melbourne Storm has won all four of their ‘home’ games here on the Coast and we will be cheering them on loudly for their last two regular games of the season,” Cr O’Pray said.

“This weekend will be a big one for the Coast with three major sporting events happening on Sunday, starting with the IRONMAN 70.3 Sunshine Coast in Mooloolaba, Suncorp Super Netball match between our Sunshine Coast Lightning and Qld Firebirds at USC Stadium and, of course, the footy.

“These events offer a great opportunity for the Sunshine Coast to welcome fellow Queenslanders, as participants and spectators.

“Events have played an important role for the Sunshine Coast community – offering experiences that contribute to positive mental and physical wellbeing, which is important now more than ever and contribute to the local economy by stimulating extra trade for local suppliers.

“For these reasons, Sunshine Coast Council will continue to follow the advice of the Chief Health Officer regarding safe event activities, to ensure we maximise every opportunity to support business bounce back.”

Tickets to the Storm v Tigers game are on sale to Melbourne Storm and Sunshine Coast Lightning members 9am-midnight, Friday 11 September. The general public can access tickets from 9am, Monday 14 September via Ticketek only. Adult tickets start from $30 and family passes from $80 are available.

Local businesses are taking advantage of the event attractions and are offering Sunday specials or weekend deals for locals and visitors.  To find out more visit www.visitsunshinecoast.com/weekend-of-sport
