From November council will work with the community to create a shared vision for Memorial Drive, Eumundi through a placemaking process.
As part of this, council will seek community feedback to understand what is loved as well as what could be enhanced.
Placemaking involves the community in the design and management of public spaces to help create a “sense of place”, or unique identity, for a town.
It’s about improving public spaces to strengthen Eumundi as a destination and encourage the community and local businesses to invest in events, arts and shop-front improvements.
Council has committed $150,000 this financial year (2020/21) and $750,000 next financial year (2021/22) towards streetscape improvements, subject to future budget deliberations.
Division 10 Cr David Law said community members are encouraged to get involved in this exciting opportunity and more information on how to participate will be available later this year.
“During this time please have your say, then in early 2021 we will come back to you with concept designs and ask you for feedback around have we got it right? Is this what you told us?” he said.
Following this consultation the final designs will be produced and the actual construction is currently scheduled to take place in the following financial year 2021/2022.
